[edit] Saturday Sanity: I Will Note Let You Ruin My Week, Warner Brothers
16 August 2008, by Plenty of things happened this week for which I’m thankful. I talked to two of my favorite editors, spent some much needed time with a loved one, realized there was more money in the bank than I thought, and helped someone find a job. Chopper even found her favorite ball - one that’s been lost for almost two weeks - which means I can stop relying on those tennis ball-type toys that she demolishes in five minutes. However, I was also reminded once again that money tends to make the world go
[edit] Pictures From The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum Tour
12 August 2008, by After the controversy sparked over the adoption of the name “Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum,” and after I watched TAPS declare the place haunted, I haven’t really kept up with what’s going on in Weston, West Virginia (and all around the nation) regarding the old mental health hospital. It’s not that I’m not interested. I just haven’t heard anything new. However, that’s not the case with Mental Health Notes readers, Jason. Jason recently journeyed to Weston to tour the hospital of a thousand

26 July 2008, by It’s July 26, and for completely random reasons, it’s time for another edition of What Do You Really Want? Since the last edition of What Do You Really Want?, there’s been a pretty well-balanced mix of serious and hilarious searches. So, I thought I’d represent them both. And, hopefully I’ve been able to point you in the right direction with each of them. 5 MHN Search Phrases I May or May Not Be Able to Help You With “celebrities disorder” - Hmm…while I’m not opposed to discussing the poss
[edit] Weston Clocktower Repair
7 July 2008, by Asylum enthusiast Taylor/WSH posted about this on the forum: Joe Jordan, current owner of the Weston State Hospital Kirkbride has received funds from the state to repair the building’s clocktower. West Virginia’s Historic Preservation Office has granted $104,000 for repairs. Mr Jordan will match the grant with another $104,000 plus work from staff and volunteers. [...]
[edit] Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum
5 July 2008, by tatyana Weston, WV - My trip to the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum (TALA) was a bit of a lengthy one. Not just the tour, but the drive was longer than expected, and since I had to be home at a reasonable hour this week, I felt crunched for time ...

18 June 2008, by trans-allegheny lunatic asylum riles some “folks” Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. © matthewsalibi.com WDTV featured a story earlier this week about protesters at the new Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston. I visited the asylum in the end of May; the newly-offered historic tour was one of the highlights of my most recent visit home to West Virginia. Among the protester’s complaints: the name “Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum” is insensitive to former patients. And, maybe it is. But the nam

14 June 2008, by Continuing with the theme of my previous post, I thought I’d put the spotlight on a very thoughtful and fair take on the matter written by a gentleman named Don Moore. Mr Moore comes from the side taking strong offense at use of the word “lunatic”. By looking beyond the word however, he’s found a better [...]

[edit] Lunatic Asylum T-Shirts and Protest
12 June 2008, by Lunatic Asylum T-Shirts and Protest I thought the furor over the Weston name change had died down a little, but evidently not. There’s a protest demonstration planned at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum this weekend. Adding fuel to the fire perhaps is a new t-shirt being sold by the Jordans. The shirt (pictured above) says, “I went nuts at…” on the front, and “Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum” on the back. The “I went nuts at…” part is undeniably crass. Depending on your sense of humor and fee

[edit] A Paranormal Bedlam, Act III
29 May 2008, by Previously, we went on an exciting investigation with “Ghost Hunters” at the former Weston State Hospital, now renamed the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum by its charming owner, asbestos heiress and mud bog racing enthusiast Rebecca Jordan, who is also, by some incredible coincidence, a lunatic. During the night, wild and crazy things happened. Strange voices were heard, mysterious footsteps were chased, orbs and shadows darted about, Jason and Grant saw a backwards-jetting apparition, and none

27 May 2008, by “The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum creeps me out.” - Jason Hawes of Ghost Hunters during the “Haunted Asylum” episode. Deserted prisons. Timeworn schools. Decaying mental hospitals. They all seem to offer luxury resort-style accommodations for those galling ghouls and pesky phantoms that, for whatever reason, just can’t seem to let go of this world. Especially those buildings that fall into the third category. Such is the case with the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. Back in March, Jason
[edit] A Paranormal Bedlam, Act II
25 May 2008, by Previously, in the Mme. Blabhblatsky/Talking Mongoose recarp of Episode 409 Haunted Asylum of “Ghost Hunters,” we tried to adjust to radical changes at TAPS after traveling forward in time a jolting three years. Our favorite nerds were gone. Jason had strange facial hair. An “actress” was “acting” on this “reality” show. And in this episode, TAPS were hitting a new low as they joined forces with asbestos princess and velociraptor Rebecca Jordan, owner of the recently re-christened Trans-Allegh
[edit] A Paranormal Bedlam, Act I
22 May 2008, by The “Ghost Hunters” fourth season episode “The Haunted Asylum” is recarped by Mme. Blahblatsky and the Talking Mongoose. The first half of the second season has already worn Mme. B. down to a nubbin, so she is taking a respite in the future, also known as the present. I promised her more excitement here. It should probably be noted that Mme. B., who does the transcribing and general recap, has not seen any of the fourth season, and only a few episodes of the third season. Since I take care

1 May 2008, by What Is Lobotomy (A Relation of Lobotomy with Lunatic Asylum and Insane People) What Is Lobotomy ? A lobotomy is a form of psychosurgery, also known as a leukotomy or leucotomy. Lobotomies were used in the past to treat a wide range of severe mental illnesses, including schizophrenia, clinical depression, and various anxiety disorders. After the introduction of the antipsychotic Thorazine, lobotomies fell out of common use. A lobotomy consists of cutting the connections to and from, or simpl

When she asked the group to stay put while she went after him they assured her that no such man had ever been in the group and that no one was missing. The team does start hearing sounds right after this though, including what they believed to be a woman’s voice and footsteps. Just a bit later though, Krystyn reports feeling a chill go up the back of her neck, the back of her head

[edit] Ghost Hunters Goes To "Haunted Asylum" This Week
28 April 2008, by In this week’s Ghost Hunters episode, called Haunted Asylum, Jason and Grant and the team head to Weston State Hospital in West Virginia. It’s a former psychiatric hospital that’s being restored by volunteers who claim the place is haunted. Ghost Hunters, our favorite paranormal TV series, airs on Wednesdays at 9:00 PM on Sci-Fi. Originally called the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, the hospital operated from 1864 to 1994. Could this place hold real live ghosts? West Virginia has be
[edit] Weston Web Site Renovation
24 April 2008, by Weston Web Site Renovation The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum web site has a great new look. Check it out if you have some time to spare. It’s definitely worth a gander. The layout and graphics are very “sexy” and will certainly draw more people in to learn the Weston asylum story. www.trans-alleghenylunaticasylum.com. I like how the home page sort of splits the building in half to acknowledge the two big interests regarding the old hospital: History & Heritage versus Hauntings &
