[edit] Mariners Ink Branyan
3 December 2008, by The Seattle Mariners have signed their first free agent of the offseason, 3rd baseman Russell Branyan. Branyan played in 50 games with the Brewers last year hitting 12 home runs in 132 at bats (not a bad rate really) with a .250 batting average. While Branyan is hardly a big signing, he should provide the M's with some left handed power off the bench or from the DH spot as long as they don't expect him to do much against southpaws. The Mariners will be Branyan's 8th team and 6th in 3 years. T

3 December 2008, by The Mariners Continue To Be The Evil Empire Of Mediocre Acquisitions Posted by Harvey Bars December 3rd, 2008 Great. Russell Branyan. Sentences like this immediately frighten me: I have a feeling Branyan will be doing more than just backing up. Let’s see. Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik says he can play both infield spots, or serve as the DH. The Extra Innings package should really be complimentary for Mariners fans at this point. Rotoworld seems to sum it up best: He COULD be a league-aver

[edit] Yankees Decline Arbitration to Abreu
2 December 2008, by Former Phillies right fielder Bobby Abreu was not offered arbitration by the Yankees, hinting that he will not return to the Bronx next season. Abreu came to the Phillies in 1998 for shortstop Kevin Stocker, and had eight strong seasons in the City of Brotherly Love. While Abreu was an offensive machine averaging 23 home runs and 107 RBI’s, he defense was sub par (due to his fear of the wall among other things), and his carefree attitude turned the fans against him. His attitude didn’t just

[edit] MLB 2008 Season Annual
30 November 2008, by Download the WHGB 2008 Annual (pdf) It seems much longer than one month ago since the Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series. After the 2,430 game regular season (2,431 in the end this year) and the drama of the postseason, MLB comes to an abrupt halt and an established part of your daily routine (checking the scores, maybe watching a game) disappears. It’s a bit of a shock to the system, but in some ways it is a necessary process. An MLB season is packed full with action and incidents,
[edit] Dom Chiti, no longer special assistant
29 November 2008, by Here’s an interesting piece of news that effects both the Braves and Mariners. Back at the beginning of November I noted that the Braves hired former Ranger Dom Chiti as a special assistant to General Manager Frank Wren. Now it seems he’s headed out west as the bullpen coach for new Mariners Manager Don Wakamatsu this coming from Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times. It is all but certain that Wakamatsu’s entire staff of pitching coaches will be coming out of Arlington as well. Dom Chiti (left) wa
