[edit] The Reason I Don't Hate the Islanders...
2 December 2008, by Last year, I'll admit it, I hated the Islanders. They also beat the Rangers in a few games I was at (including a stinker at the Coliseum in the beginning of the year and a shootout in the Rangers last home game of the season), while this year I haven't been to any Rivalry games yet. They also had Ted Nolan, Chris Simon, Sean Hill, and Rick DiPietro. This year, all 3 are gone. Their replacements are first-time NHL coach Scott "Flash" Gordon (anyone see that video of him from Boston College in 19

[edit] Isles Bruins Pregame Thoughts
28 November 2008, by The Isles may have hit a snag against Pittsburgh on Wednesday, but they are still 5-4-1 over their last 10 games, proving they can be a .500 team without Rick DiPietro, Mike Sillinger, Mike Comrie and Kyle Okposo. Veterans the likes of Doug Weight, Trent Hunter and Bill Guerin have been holding down the fort offensively all the season and now with a healthy Brendan Witt and Freddy Meyer back to support Mark Streit, Andy Sutton, Chris Campoli and Radek Martinek, I really feel that the Islanders

[edit] O’Byrne’s Own Goal
25 November 2008, by This poor kid in Montreal tonight, it’s bad enough he scored on his own empty net during a delayed Islanders penalty (with about 4 minutes remaining in a 3-2 game) in which the Isles would go on to win 4-3 in a shootout, but now the video is already on Youtube. Click here to view the embedded video. Not only that, but some very angry Habs fans have already updated the guys Wikipedia page. That was easily the strangest sequence of events I have seen in a long time, even better than Davison’s f
[edit] Colliton Recalled as Isles Take on Sabres
22 November 2008, by That revolving door the Islanders use really needs some maintenance after all the use it’s getting lately. With Franz Nielsen going down to injury last night, the Islanders have recalled center Jeremy Colliton from their AHL affiliate in Bridgeport. It’s unfortunate that Nielsen was injured as he was playing some great hockey as of late and was beaming with confidence - hopefully he comes back soon. In the meantime, I don’t even know if it’s worth dissecting last nights loss to the Devils. The
[edit] Mottau Suspended 2 Games For Nielsen Hit
22 November 2008, by Just browsing the headlines this afternoon, I came across a few interesting tidbits on Mike Mottau’s hit on Franz Nielsen last night in New Jersey. I was a little annoyed last night because there really wasn’t any information at all regarding the hit or subsequent review. If this would have involved Canadian teams the media would have been all over it….. I digress. In case you haven’t heard, Mottau has been suspended for two games. First take a look at the hit: Click here to view the embedded
[edit] Devils outscore and outslug Isles
22 November 2008, by Another day, another DNP due to injury - today it was John Madden, whose foot swelled up after taking a slapshot off it in last night’s game. Also, Nicklas Bergfors was mercifully sent down to Lowell at last, leaving fellow rookie Petr Vrana and journeyman Barry Tallackson to take their place. And Scott Clemmensen was given the night off in favor of Kevin Weekes. Yet, the Devils came up with an important 5-2 victory over an Islander team that came in on a rare three-game winning streak. W

[edit] In And Outs: The Islanders Revolving Door
20 November 2008, by Every now and then one or two (or in the Islanders case SEVEN) of your players will go down to injury. Luckily, the Islanders are fortunate enough to have their minor league affiliate an hours drive away. With rookie Kyle Okposo down and out with an arm/hand injury for about a week - enforcer Mitch Fritz has been recalled from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. With one call up, two call ups comes one activation from the injured reserve, (defenseman Brendan Witt will make his return Friday against th
[edit] Canucks Come to Long Island!
17 November 2008, by Tonight the Islanders look to make it 3 wins in a row, specifically against Canadian teams (something that is sure to rile up the Canadian press). However, the Canucks are white hot their last several games due to the unbeatable Roberto Luongo (a former first round pick of our Islanders…). The Vancouver Canucks are 4-0-1 in their last five, with Luongo having 210 minutes of shutout hockey in that span. Surely, the Islanders will have to solve their former netminder tonight and get on the board
[edit] Islanders Host Struggling Senators
15 November 2008, by What could be better than a home and home series against a team that has had your number for the last several years? Winning, SWEEPING that home and home series and tying the Senators in the standings. That’s what the Islanders will attempt to do this evening as they host the Ottawa Senators on the back half of a home and home series. Because it is a Saturday game, the Islanders will don their awesome retro 3rd jersey - it will be the first time I will see them in action tonight as I was away f

[edit] Islanders Look to Attack Ottawa!
14 November 2008, by Well, it never fails - no matter what time of day, the weather or anything else that can have some sort of “effect” on whatever it is writers use to get their creative juices, there is always at least ONE (or more…) who just have to drag the Islanders name through the mud. In this specific case, an article out of Ottawa (not even Garrioch mind you) but an unnamed writer on CBCSports How do you spell relief for your worst beating of the season? NYI. That’s the common abbreviation for the New Y
[edit] Isles Mistakes Cost Them in 3-1 Loss to Philly
12 November 2008, by What’s worse than working all day and coming home to watch an Islanders game? Working all day and coming home to watch a game that you already knew the score to. Ah man. If I was the Incredible Hulk, my first words on this game would be: “Hulk want powerplay goals, NOW!” Seriously, it’s actually gotten the point this season where I have to quote superheroes I can’t stand [I'm more of a Spider-Man kind of guy] to depict the way I feel about this team. As I mentioned numerous times on this
[edit] Bailey and Schuerlein IN Against Philly!
11 November 2008, by Well as you may have read earlier, it was speculated that we would see Bailey’s debut this afternoon as Mike Comrie would likely be out with some sort of hip ailment. What’s even better is that I just got home and I am about to head out to the game after all. Talk about a game time decision! I am very excited to see Bailey in action tonight, as I did not get to see him during the preseason. This is sort of special for me in a way, because I was there when Bailey was drafted and got to speak to
[edit] Weight’s Hit on Sutter Still in The News
10 November 2008, by It was just about two weeks ago when Islanders forward Doug Weight completely leveled Hurricanes rookie Brandon Sutter while his head was down. It was unfortunate for Sutter, he left the game after the collision and the seriousness of the hit left Weight with a heavy heart. Right from the start, the hit had become somewhat of a focus to everyone in hockey - it was just massive. Some were calling for Weight’s head and others were just saying Sutter was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The l
[edit] Islanders Flyers PreGame Thoughts
10 November 2008, by The Shenanigans the Islanders have forced their fans to deal with this season essentially started after the Islanders lost in overtime to the Flyers on October 30. Ever since then, watching this team play the final 20 minutes is worse than a prostate exam. So what does this team need to do in order to get out of the rut they’ve gotten themselves in? Here are a few of my thoughts: 1- Be more physical, especially in the defensive zone- Giving up 18 shots in the final period on Saturday, this

9 November 2008, by Rags to Riches! Writer: Steven Grant Pencilers: Tom Sutton, Carmine Infantino Inker: Jim Mooney Letterer: Rick Parker Colorist: Ben Sean Originally published: May 1980 This Team-Up issue ties into all the recent Spider-Woman stuff, specifically her encounters with Spider-Man, Werewolf by Night, the Enforcer and (I suspect) the Shroud. [edit] Isles Look For Third in Atlanta
6 November 2008, by Three things come to mind about tonight’s game, three very important things. First, being a new year the Islanders need to overcome whatever “Rangers Hangover” stigma results in the game following playing their crosstown rivals. Number two, the Islanders need to play a solid 60 minutes and remain out of the penalty box. And finally, number three - the Isles need to maintain the lead late in the game. Somewhat troublesome is the fact that the team has not been able to keep the opposition off th
