18 November 2008, by At 4:40pm today, I was the third voter in my precinct to vote. That is pathetic - even though Democratic candidate Marcia Fudge is running unopposed for the Ohio 11th Congressional District (empty after Stephanie Tubbs Jones died earlier this year). Here’s the info: Voters in the 11th Congressional District today choose an interim replacement for the late Stephanie Tubbs Jones and voters in Cleveland’s Ward 1 and Ward 7 cast ballots for City Council candidates. [edit] Columbus Dispatch editorial calls for voting “safeguards” for non-existent problems
18 November 2008, by This Columbus Dispatch editorial supports throwing votes away, even when technicalities caused by poll-worker errors create discrepancies. Why? Because of voter fraud myth, which it admits is non-existent. “At issue are about 1,000 provisional ballots with defects such as voters failing to print their names and sign the ballot envelopes, as required by Ohio law. The signatures are affidavits, holding prospective voters accountable with penalties for fraud. Without this safeguard, Ohio might

[edit] Ohio GOP playing more games with voting process
18 November 2008, by According to the Dayton Daily News, the Ohio GOP is trying to move up the move up the registration deadline in Ohio to 65 days before the election (it is currently at 30 days). This would end the practice of registering, and then immediately voting by absentee ballot. Ohioans can state voting by absentee ballot starting 35 days before the election. As the Buckeye State Blog points out, 65 days before this year’s election would have been in the middle of the Republican National Convention.

[edit] Machine Problems Worsened 2008 Voting Woes
16 November 2008, by Guest blogged by Steven Rosenfeld of AlterNet The electronic voting problems in the 2008 election are broader than recently-publicized snafus such as machines not turning on, voter databases omitting names, or touch screens not properly recording votes, according to an analysis of 1,700 incident reports from the nation's largest voter hotline. Moreover, the voting machine issues and the confusion they caused among poll workers appear to have compounded the delays faced by untold thousands of

[edit] Expanding the number of early voting locations in Ohio?
13 November 2008, by This is a good idea. The popularity of early voting has Ohio’s top elections official considering another try at expanding the locations where voters can cast ballots before Election Day. Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner wants to let each county open four early voting locations in the 35 days before an election. Ohio allows only one early-voting center per county. Brunner said she will gauge whether there’s interest in changing the law when she convenes a bipartisan election summit next

[edit] What a great idea! Wait! What a dumb idea!
12 November 2008, by So as I read the Plain Dealer on the bus this morning, I stumbled upon this article. Seems that Jenny Brunner wants to expand early in-person voting. One location per county is not enough. Counties should be able to have four locations! “What a great idea,” I thought. This will make voting easier. The lines will be shorter. Sure, there will be an added expense, but it will make voting easier for folks. They won’t have to stand in such long lines. Then I had a cup of coffee. Then I thought, “what

[edit] Payday lenders, casino operators and adult entertainment
7 November 2008, by I am really confused. The payday lenders involves job loss, the casinos issue purportedly involves job creation, and the adult entertainment matter also involves job loss. What’s the one commonality?
