The signatures are affidavits, holding prospective voters accountable with penalties for fraud. Without this safeguard, Ohio might

[edit] Ohio GOP playing more games with voting process

18 November 2008, by According to the Dayton Daily News, the Ohio GOP is trying to move up the move up the registration deadline in Ohio to 65 days before the election (it is currently at 30 days).  This would end the practice of registering, and then immediately voting by absentee ballot.  Ohioans can state voting by absentee ballot starting 35 days before the election.   As the Buckeye State Blog points out, 65 days before this year’s election would have been in the middle of the Republican National Convention.

Sure, there will be an added expense, but it will make voting easier for folks. They won’t have to stand in such long lines. Then I had a cup of coffee. Then I thought, “what

[edit] Ouch!

8 November 2008, by From the Plain Dealer: Conan O’Brien joked on “Late Night” last week: “A judge in Ohio has ruled that homeless people are allowed to vote and that they can list their home address as ‘a park bench.’ Ohio officials say that a park bench may not be the most traditional place to live - but it’s still a lot nicer than Cleveland.” Obviously, he’s never been to Youngstown. [edit] Politics are beyond me

8 November 2008, by I don't understand: Why CNN always has to break down voters' choices by their age/race/gender - firstly, I'm pretty sure socioeconomic status or whether you live in a city indicates how you vote more than your gender or race or even age. [edit] Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner’s achievement

7 November 2008, by The judging will continue through the 2010 election season when the Ohio Republican Party continues to work at discrediting Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner. I have no doubt they’ll find more than enough information to present as making the case for her defeat, but in the meantime, the lack of criticism seems to be in far greater abundance and Brunner is proceeding with a summit. I’m checking into the dates and credentialing to attend the event. SECRETARY BRUNNER ANNOUNCES OHIO ELECTIO

[edit] Payday lenders, casino operators and adult entertainment

7 November 2008, by I am really confused. Some Ohioans are upset that payday lenders are shutting down, while others are upset about casinos not opening and, just last year, many of our state legislators went like lemmings for ignoring home rule in order to also shutdown the adult entertainment industry in 2007. The payday lenders involves job loss, the casinos issue purportedly involves job creation, and the adult entertainment matter also involves job loss. What’s the one commonality? All three industries ma

[edit] Finally Proud To Be An American

6 November 2008, by As I sat at home yesterday watching the results from the election roll in I started thinking about the last eight years of my life. As a 23 year old now those were the years that I was most politically aware to date. I thought about how angry I was when the U.S. first declared war on Iraq when I was 17. I remember being afraid of being drafted. I remembered Bush declaring victory in the "war on terror" only to find out later that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and that the premise for goin
