14 November 2008, by 料理をして、その疲れから発熱したことは今までに３度ある。韓国でキムチを漬けるのを手伝った後、教会で３００人分の食事の準備を手伝った後、そしてサンクスギビングのディナーを準備した後の３度。そして今回、再び、教会での食事準備。 通っているカトリックの韓国人教会では日曜日のミサの後に、信者がランチを準備してカフェテリアで安く提供している。今回は私の所属する地区グループの分担である。前回の発熱以来、私が出産して赤ちゃんの世話で大変だったり、日本に帰省中だったり、何度か免除されていたのだが、今回は前日の下ごしらえの人手が足りないということで手伝うことに。 今回のメニューは「牛肉と大根のスープ」という、韓国では一般的なスープ。牛肉と大根を煮てスープを作り、後でその牛肉と大根を取り出して切って、ネギとともに加えるもので、スープの中にご飯も入れて食べるクッパプ（スープご飯）である。確かに比較的簡単しかも美味しいので私もよく家で作るのだが、３００人分を用意するとなると重労働である。 私は付け合わせのキムチを食べやすいように小さく切る仕事を分担。約２時間の間、休む間もなく、巨大なタライに入ったポギ

14 November 2008, by 先日、たまたま韓国のテレビニュースを見ていると、誰か有名人のお葬式の模様が流れて来た。一瞬、耳を疑った。なんとそれは主にテレビドラマ等で活躍していた、国民的女優とも言うべき、チェ•ジンシルではないか。急いでインターネットで韓国の新聞を開くと、彼女が前日に自宅で自殺していたことが分かった。何でもインターネット上に流れた自分に関する噂に関して心を痛め、最近は鬱病状態であったと言う。世間また芸能界の冷たさを嘆いていたとも言う。まだ幼い二人の子供を残しての、国民的女優の自殺というニュースに、韓国社会も大きな衝撃を受けたようだ。 私も、彼女には思い入れがあり、今回のニュースは大変にショックであった。１０数年前、私が韓国ドラマに目覚めるきっかけとなったドラマ『星に願いを』に彼女はアン•ジェウクやチャ•インピョらとともに出演。典型的なシンデレラストーリーだが、彼女のけなげさが当時の私にはとても新鮮で励みになり、今でもこのドラマは私にとって特別なものとなっている。また『君そして僕』というドラマも、韓国に住んでいた頃、夢中で見ていたドラマだ。 彼女はもと巨人のチョ•ソンミン選手と結婚し、二人の子供
