[edit] Something nobody wants to talk about

2 December 2008, by I’ve resisted for sometime writing about Jeremiah Wright. I figured it would unnecessarily focus attention on a dead issue, especially since the election is over, but what the heck? I’m bored and need something to write about. Jeremiah Wright is not who they say he is. He is not a radical, out of control black man sending wild, anti-American messages with a Biblical twist to his congregation. What he is doing is speaking the truth about the current status of the black community, and America as

[edit] RNS: Religion shaped 2008 in big, dramatic ways

2 December 2008, by "It's very tempting but a bit dangerous to over-interpret what happened," said Luis Lugo, executive director of the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life. "Clearly Obama improved across all religious groups, but the economy just overwhelmed every other issue." Still, the 2008 campaign was remarkable for the ways religion -- or religious figures -- played such a prominent role. Obama was forced to sever ties with his fiery pastor of 20 years, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright of Chicago's Trinity United

27 November 2008, by What’s a lawyer without a BlackBerry? We asked that somewhat rhetorical question a while back. The answer? President. For security reasons Barack Obama was initially told he would need to give up his mobile. Or maybe not. Apparently the president-elect is feeling a bit too constricted inside the presidential bubble, which is understandably tightly controlled by the Secret Service. But Obama wants a little more access to those outside the presidential circle, according to the Chicago Tribun

[edit] Safely Elected, Barack Obama Can Start Skipping Church Again

24 November 2008, by Presidential elections in our country tend to put greater emphasis on church attendance than, say, international nuclear proliferation. And this year was no exception, with pastors like Jeremiah Wright and John Hagee getting far more press exposure than actual presidential candidates like Tom Vilsack and Jim Gilmore. An exception to this principle and one which has a good moral grounding, consists of a case where the purchase is illegal because it compromises public safety, or is otherwise in conflict with the law. Here is one case however, where Israel’s Supreme Court arrogates unto itself a right which no Supreme Court in any free country would dare appropriate for

Fully half the coverage of religion had to do with the candidacy of now Pres.-elect Obama. Most of this coverage related to rumors that he's a Muslim. Coming in second was the coverage related to Rev. Jeremiah Wright. You could argue that the former is not really about religion at all, and the second only peripherally so. Pew says that there was virtually no coverag
