[edit] 25th Anniversary of Magical 1984 Tigers Season On Deck

21 November 2008, by Today it almost seems like a distant dream.  I was 13 years old in 1984 and manning a souvenir stand on the corner of Cochrane & Kaline Drive.  My team was inside the ballpark performing magic acts every night and the entire city, region and state stood captivated by the entire script. I was just a kid, but I realized at the time how unique the 1984 season was as it played itself out.  A no-hitter the first week of the season; a 35-5 start; record crowds at The Corner; a wire-to-wire first

[edit] Tigers prepare for Rule 5 Draft, free agency

21 November 2008, by A while back, I did a post about the 40-man roster construction of the Tigers. I would like to revisit it to compare what I said would happen and what actually happened. I like to learn from my mistakes and I like to try to be accountable for my bad predictions. [edit] Tigers Rumors: Zumaya, Hoffman, Miner

20 November 2008, by Joel Zumaya might be ready to pitch this spring--and he might not be, reports Jason Beck of MLB.com. Tigers assistant GM Al Avila calls it "basically a week-to-week, month-to-month situation." That's enough to force the Tigers to come up with a backup plan for their relief corps. Adding Trevor Hoffman as closer may be at the center of that plan. Brandon Lyon is another option for the ninth, says Beck. Zach Miner is mentioned as an in-house option for the bullpen, but likely wouldn't close. He

19 November 2008, by I'm working on a project, and in my research it dawned on me the Mud Hens play a full month less baseball than the Tigers. Obviously, that's not news but for some reason it had never struck me before that they play only eighteen less games in one less month. That means the Triple A teams are working on a schedule that could easily knock a week and a half off if applied to the majors. I know the Triple A teams don't have to do cross-continent flights and an average of 28 or 29 games a month i

19 November 2008, by He wasn’t an overly popular man — but he is unquestionably one of the Founding Fathers of Detroit baseball. Frank Navin’s affiliation with the Detroit Tigers dates back to 1902.  He started out as a bookkeeper for then-owner Samuel Angus.  The very next year, Navin bought stock in the Tigers and became a minority owner.  Prior to the 1907 season, he purchased 50% of the team from the new owner, William Yawkey. From 1902 to 1935, Navin was involved in the direct management and oversight of the

19 November 2008, by So says Jon Paul Morosi by way of Jason Beck: Beimel, 31, went 5-1 with a 2.02 ERA in 71 appearances with the Los Angeles Dodgers this year. Left-handers batted .278 against him but had only three extra-base hits, all doubles. Beimel has allowed only one home run over the past two seasons.
