- [Audiobook Jeff Lindsay - Darkly Dreaming Dexter]
7 July 2008, by This the first and, most likely, the last time you will ever see me write this sentence. I’d never met a book I didn’t love more than it’s audio-visual recreation until now. Darly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay is by no means a horrible book, yet it didn’t have the humor, irony, and intrigue that Showtime gave it. After reading the book which inspired the television series and watching the complete first season, I can say with absolute certainty that the book is not better. The writer’s f

29 June 2008, by My reading this month. Star rating from 1 (poor, don’t bother) to 5 (excellent). Violette Leduc’s In the Prison of My Skin. ** Memoir/fiction blend and the fraught relationship between a girl and her mother. Some good descriptive passages but ultimately, there’s not much to the story. Leduc was encouraged by Simone de Beauvoir and her fans included Genet, etc. John Mullan’s How Novels Work. ***** Excellent overview of writing techniques used in novels. Mullan has drawn upon ideas from his c

12 June 2008, by unknown Both sides see themselves as the good guys fighting the bad guys - a 'dexter' scenario. While violence isn't the only way to resolve a conflict, it is the only way to win it: and as a society (we probably don't qualify as a 'culture') ...

8 June 2008, by Dexter In the Dark is the most recent of Jeff Lindsay's Dexter novels, and I have the same problem with it that I do with the prior novels, the plot just isn't very good. In fact the plot this time completely took me out of the story by adding in some entirely unnecessary fantasy elements that to my mind ruin the heart of Dexter's character. However, while I hate the new conception of why Dexter is compelled to commit various horrible acts, the character himself is as strong as ever. Furthermor

4 June 2008, by Okay, I’ll say it: I hate Twilight. For those of you who aren’t regularly around teenagers, you might have seen this book cover on your way through Borders or Barnes and Noble: Twilight is a publishing phenomenon, to say the least — it’s sold something over 3.5 million copies, even muscling out Harry Potter on some lists, if memory serves, and is responsible for (among other things) one of my first-period students writing “I Heart Edward Cullen” all over her notebook. The first thirty pag
21 May 2008, by So I kept my promise to myself, and two weekends ago went to the book shop and bought, Darkly Dreaming Dexter, and it’s sequel, Dearly Devoted Dexter. Darkly Dreaming Dexter is the first book of the series that follows serial killer, who only kills the bad guys that deserve it, as he deals with some of his own internal conflicts as a new, flashy, serial killer wanders into his neighbourhood. Dexter is torn between admiration for this new predator, do what he does best. I’d have to say the sho

20 May 2008, by I’m not sure how many of OP’s contributors are into the Showtime series, but I should think a recommedation from this contributor would suggest at least a look (or more). I will admit, however, that it took more than one episode to get hooked. Centered around a police department’s forensic blood splatter analyst, gore is the basis for the show. But, oh! It’s so much more. The series is based on Darkly Dreaming Dexter, a novel by Jeff Lindsey… Something I didn’t know, myself, about the show.
