1 December 2008, by scottkarch one Mac OS X Server 10.4.9 on a Windows 2003 Active Directory. The problem is that every two weeks the server will lose its connection to the Active Directory and fail to authenticate any domain users from either Mac or Windows machines. A quick unbind and rebind of the server to the Active Directory fixes the problem.

I've setup a separate OU in the directory and used group policy to disable machine account passwords and signing requirements to "only if client agrees." The server is not restarting in the middle of the night or anything like that (I know because our backups keep running, using the root user). In the syslog it shows that all of the sudden user authentication fails and it always seems to happen at night.

The server can resolve all hosts on the domain, DNS reports no errors, no Windows clients are having any issues with the domain.

The Mac OS X server is bound to the directory and both Mac and Windows clients access the server.
