[edit] Gnarls Barkley ACL/PBS Showcase
5 October 2008, by Last weekend, in the fair city of Austin, Texas, was a blitzkrieg of all the diverse, jangled, fangled demographics that seep up through the cracks of this metropolis when there’s any kind of musical festival. This time, it was the ACL Fest in all her microwave heat and steam-room glory, with all the dust suffocation and UV radiation a man can handle. [edit] ACL reviewed in big-city press
30 September 2008, by The story headline for the feature on the front page of the arts section in today’s NYT is “Hitting the Rader: A Festival Soars in Texas,” byline Nate Chinen. It’s possible that this is a first-time visit to Austin for the author. His verdict? In brief, it’s that, “judging by the strength of the music, the smoothness of operations and the fervor of crowds averaging 65,000 daily — [the ACL fest] deserves recognition as a first-tier rock fest, with a regional twist.” Cons mentioned are sound blee

30 September 2008, by I know, Rocks Off thought we were done with ACL too. [edit] Gillian Welch and Neko Case at ACL Fest: The Return of the Redheads
29 September 2008, by Gillian Welch must have read our earlier post about Friday's redheads, Patty Griffin and Jenny Lewis. She and partner David Rawlings took the theme and ran with it in their cowboy boots. First there was "Red Clay Halo," from their touchstone album Time (The Revelator), and later there was "Knuckleball Catcher," a new song about Red Sox pitchers and the men behind the plate who've got only "one job to do." Welch and Rawlings glided through an elegant folk catalog including "Orphan Girl," "Look

[edit] Random Thoughts on ACL Fest
29 September 2008, by Sharon Jones, with a little help from a new friend (Dawn Jones-Garcia) The best fan-participation moment came during Sharon Jones’ set, when not one but two different random slobs got onstage to dance with the funky soul siren’s set. The first guy was a bearded, burly dude who came out from backstage and busted some impressive moves, not a bit intimidated by the powerful Miss Jones. A couple songs later, she called up a guy in khaki shorts and glasses who looked like he was interrupted from hi
